Get Your Indiana Fingerprint Clearance Card
Although the Indiana State Board of Education does not require you to submit a Fingerprint Clearance Card, some individual schools and school districts may require a Fingerprint Clearance Card in order to gain employment with them.
Obtain Official College Transcripts
You'll need your offical college transcripts, sealed and unopened, showing you have a bachelor's degree in order to receive your substitute certificate. Follow the steps from Indiana Department of Education's online License Verification and Information System (LVIS) to determine where to send your official transcript.
Complete Your Application for Certification

When you've decided what district or school you would like to teach for, you'll need to submit an application through the Indiana Department of Education's online License Verification and Information System (LVIS) to become a substitute teacher in Indiana. Once on this page, click on "LVIS Portal Link" and create a profile. After 20mins of so, you will be sent and email verification for the creation of your profile. Once this verification in received, log in with your user name and password. Click on the link "Permits" and find one marked "Substitute Permits". Complete and submit online with a $15 licensing fee payable online.
