Frequently Asked Questions
Included are twelve frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your conversation with our admissions representative. We want you to receive all the information you need about attending Liberty and earning your degree.
1.What are the admissions requirements?
Regardless of program, your first step is to submit an official application for admission.
If you have already completed an application, please proceed to step two where you will need to submit to our office any necessary forms/transcripts required by your chosen degree program.
2.Which degree programs are offered in my areas of interest?
Liberty University Online offers 115 programs in the areas the market demands most — business, education, nursing, psychology, counseling and religion — all taught in a flexible and convenient online format from a Christian worldview.
Although Liberty University pioneered distance education in 1985, it is not simply an “online” school, but a brick-and-mortar institution established in 1971. In addition to more than 60,000 online learners, Liberty now hosts more than 12,000 students on its 6,500-acre campus in central Virginia. You can visit the campus for one-week intensive classes, a campus visit and tour, or join us for commencement ceremonies when your program is complete.
3.Is Liberty University accredited?
Liberty University is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC) to award degrees at associate, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist and doctoral levels.
4.How will Liberty’s Christian mission affect my education experience?
Liberty Online Ministries is committed to providing our Liberty family with spiritual resources that will encourage and strengthen you and your family. We want you and your family to become all that God intended you to be.
5.What are the specific courses for my degree?
One of the smartest tools you can use to reach your educational goals is your Degree Completion Plan (DCP). Like a roadmap to success, the DCP spells out required and optional courses for your degree and their credit value, with space for you to document the semester each course was taken and the grade you received as you advance through your program. Using the DCP will allow you to plan your approach, monitor your progress, stay on track and avoid pre-graduation surprises.
6.How long does it take to complete a given degree program?
Degree completion time greatly depends on the chosen program and the amount of transfer credit you may have. For undergraduate programs, the more credits you transfer in, the faster you’ll complete your degree. You may be able to earn credits from professional training, through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or by utilizing credit from previous college courses you have taken. For graduate and master’s programs, it depends on the program and the amount of time you have available to spend on your classes. Most undergraduate and graduate programs have a certain number of courses that must be completed through Liberty in order to graduate. Please contact your new enrollment specialist to learn more.
7.What is the cost of tuition and other fees?
While the cost of attending a private college today is over $20,000 a year at many schools, Liberty University Online offers you a more affordable solution - the lowest tuition rate of any leading online university in the country! And with Liberty’s eight-week online format you can accelerate your degree and realize a return on your investment even faster.
8.Does Liberty University offer financial aid?
As a non-profit institution, Liberty University offers the lowest tuition rates among top online universities. Additionally, scholarships and flexible payment plans make Liberty's low tuition rates even more affordable.
Liberty University Online cares about your education, and we are committed to helping you navigate the financial aid process smoothly. If you have any questions or concerns about your financial needs, our highly trained staff is available to personally answer your questions and get you on the fast track toward accomplishing your educational and life goals!
